Ashram - Nakhon Nayok

Ashram is an alternative living community in Nakhon Nayok Thailand – most of the buildings were made with natural materials using cob, abobe, straw bale techniques. Yui and I visited Ashram over the last weekend of February to attend a mud house workshop.

What Buddha's heart looks like

Made of silver and adorned with jewels, the heart of Buddha is filled with sesame oil before being installed in the Buddha image at Wat Tawai in Chiang Mai

I attended the installation of Buddha’s heart at Wat Tawai in Chiang Mai last wednesday  - it is a rare ceremony that only happens in the North-west part of Thailand, home to the Lanna people. More pictures and video on this amazing event later in the week.

The Hay Bale Mud House Weekend video

Friends and guests from all over the world came to our land in late January to help us build a natural straw bale and mud house for Tit Yai, an Issan man who is partially paralyzed. We were fortunate to have teachers from baandin.org and Michel Spaan from Holland along with children and teachers from the Sri Sangwan Khon Kaen School for children with disabilities and many local Issan people help us make this house. Thanks everyone – we could not have done it without you! I posted pictures in an earlier post so please check them out if you have not already.

Missed the Superbowl - but saw this

When I’m back in the U.S. the only thing I look forward to seeing when I watch the Superbowl is the ads, but in Thailand the station carrying it live (on monday morning ) strips out the ads. For some people like my Dad that is a dream come true, but for me I miss the best parts – so thank you Youtube for having all the ads posted for me (but with no Superbowl to have to sit through). And the above ad that appeared during the game (congrats Saints!) is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time (maybe because I see a little of myself in it).

No, no need for a crib yet – if that is what you were thinking – but we are working on it.
